From Flight 1. The Messerschmitt Me262 Schwalbe (German for "Swallow") was the world's first operational turbojet fighter aircraft. It saw action from late summer of 1944 until the end of World War II as a multi-role fighter/bomber/interceptor warplane for the Luftwaffe.
